Shackcasting iPod

Before the rise of smartphones and the widespread use of smart devices, the iPod was the device of choice for many. In 2006 to capitalize on the iPod’s emerging video capabilities, Shackcasting was developed as a customized version of WordPress MU (Multi-User). This platform was designed to combine the power of blogging with iPod video playback, creating a unique solution for real estate marketing. Shackcasting revolutionized virtual tours, putting the power of showcasing properties directly into the hands of realtors, buyers, and sellers.

The platform was successfully deployed for several Keller Williams agents, enabling them to create tours (ShackCasts) for their listings and rentals. An intuitive editor was built to mix photos, narration, and audio, which later evolved into the PocketCreator—Aspen Tree Media’s internal tool for creating and publishing complex data objects.

While Shackcasting served as a proof of concept for Keller Williams Realty, the company ultimately chose not to pursue further development. Despite this, the project remains a testament to innovation in real estate marketing and an early exploration of video content for the mobile era.
